Computers with single core processors from the AMD Athlon XP or Intel Pentium 4 range and upwards are perfectly OK for home computer and most business use where graphics intensive games aren't played.
That is **PROVIDING** they are not full of crap.

The majority of PC's get to run slow and take ages to start up because their users have a passion for downloading and installing every bit of free software available on the internet. Most of these applications have a component part that loads and runs each and every time the PC is started.

The net effect is that the available memory for the PC to use is much reduced and the PC is doing 20 or more things already before you ask it to do anything. Of course is goes slow - don't you when you're doing 20 things at once?

If you want to drastically improve the performance of your PC the first step is found in "add / remove programs".
Uninstall all the programs you don't use or need.

You do not need 4 web browsers, 3 anti-virus programs, 2 firewalls etc.

Try it; you'll also be surprised how many programs you collect over time - many not used or wanted.

Well that's my tip for today from a guy who when not out to fish fixes things with chip's in - puters included. Hence "fishanchips"
