I too have joined the ABF, as said above they do seem like a great bunch of lads.

Fred, I did look at joining the society, however what put me off straight away the the bivvy ruling, mine doesn't have a removable front, so I would be penalised. Apart from that don't think there are really any differences, but what do I know.

What bivvy ruling?
There are no restrictions on bivvys or anything similar, except that you must not be asleep in your "bivvy" with baited hooks in the river.

Quite a sensible ruling I think, when you are talking of generally snaggy waters and a fish that won't stop at pulling a rod in almost as soon as it takes the bait!

In fact I'd be really surprised if any other barbel river fishery allowed that!

I saw it online somewhere the other week with regards to fishing at Sutton, my mate saw it also as we both commented on it, will try and find where it is.

There is a coverall in Fishery Rules for where landlords do not wish to have camping or indeed night fishing.

Sutton is free of any such restrictions, in fact it is well suited to the use of bivvys because when the wind blows that bit of cover is needed.

In fact I don't think you could find a safer place for night fishing on the Trent, as long as you are aware of the tides.
Park in your swim and fish, if you want to sleep whilst you camp out, don't fish!

Fred,
Copied from the barbel societies fisheries page:
No tents, bivvies or camping is allowed on the fishery, umbrellas with storm sides are acceptable
If this is not the case it's worth changing it, as it was a major factor in a couple of us not joining.
Mark

You are (probably) right it should be amended.
Sutton is not the same type of fishery as the others we have so as you were put off by the Rules, then others may well be also, but haven't said anything.
Thanks for your thoughts.
