What the hell, lamprey
Was just reading about a new fish pass in wales and I read this "lampre"
Mmmm, never heard of that fish before, quick google and 
I dont fancy pulling one of them in.

hi,
you'll find em in most tackle shop freezers mate they are a very good pike/zander/catfish bait.
very bloody like eel sections.

Theres some in the River Dove we used to make imitation fly patterns of them, there just like elvers.

You obviously never collected the PG Tips fish series "cigarette" cards as a kid. Basically parasitic, with rasping jaws, but in general they are not considered to be a true fish. Body layout too different. They don't have paired fins, and have only one nostril, but I am informed they can grow to be a metre long as a maximum. That said, I have never seen a live one.

Yes think they get it from France, might be wrong but I can't find it in bulk from the UK

apparently they have 3 eyes as well and are prehistoric, dont know how true but i did read it somewhere, lamprey baits do have some good results

There two Type's of Lamprey re Sea Lamprey which can grow upto a metre in length and River Lamprey which Billyriver's refers to on the Dove they are a fantastic Big Pike Bait I took my biggest so far of 28lb 12oz on Popped up Lamprey 
ps and we do have them in the Goyt so dont be dangling ones toes!!!
Off to Blithfield now for two Day's Big Pike Fishing

I use Lamprey flavoured pellets occasionally and they can produce some good catches of Barbel especially when the water is cooler. they emit a good flavour trail for the barbel to home in on.
I also buy Lamprey sections from my local tackle shop when I'm going Pike fishing.
