That is a very young fish. My guess would be no more than a couple of inches long. I read somewhere about them initially being blotchy when young. Certainly by 6 inches the colouring has changed to be more like an adult.

is it true a 10lb fish can take up to 20 year to reach this weight am sure i read this somewhere

My guess is they are baby barbel, from Calverton Fish farm!

I had in mind something that was swimming towards an egg, rather than from it.
