Default Barbel on dry fly fishing in spain
I’m curious to know if in England is possible to fish some barbel specie wit dry fly.
In Spain, all the barbel varieties (bocagei, comizo, microcephalus, sclateri –gitano-) can be fished on fly, and preferably with dry fly. In some journals is possible to catch 30 or 40 barbels in favourable conditions. In the most cool days of the winter, is possible to fish barbels with dry fly too.

January in Spain

I had a couple of evening sessions on the Ure last summer fishing weighted dragon fly and damsel nymphs, through a nice Barbel swim but without luck.

I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work, although I will change my tactics this year as I was fishing downstream and swinging the nymphs over where I thought the Barbel were but in future I'll try upstream nymphing which should present a better fly.

While an occasional fish does roll at the surface I've never seen what I would describe as a Barbel feeding in the surface film and taking flies on the top and would be interested to hear from anyone who has.

Andy

In Spain, the barbels feed up on the surface same as trout. Because of the hot climate, the insect eclosion are very numerous and the barbels have specializing in to capture them. In this link you can see a film where the barbels are feeding up the surface,

Hola, we have a place in Caporamor The lake I fished in spain was ( Embalse de la pedrera ) just north of Torremendo, the lake is full of carp, barbel, and zander, but very snaggy. !!
I am sure there will be lots more places like this to fish in spain
but this is local to me.
I would love to know what type of dry fly the barbel like to take! any info would be most greatfull.
