That a very pronounced two toner. I started a debate on two tone bream, having caught a few, in "Fishing" magazine ( now defunct). This was probably a little over 40 years ago.
At the time all sorts of oddball ideas were suggested: the craziest being that the fish had spent a few hours half sheltered from the sun by lily pads!!!
I saw a TV angling program that mentioned a two tone bream recently, and it looks as if a cause has still to be established. Must be something genetic I would guess though. When I used to fish for big bream I used to catch two major variants: one was dark, very bronze. the other very pale and quite gold in colour, the pale ones being altogether much prettier looking fish. The two toner in the photo is effectively half of each of these colour variants. It may be that there is a relationship in there too.
