hi lads. the hydro plant that will be built on stringers weir this year will have a fish pass, is it possible that that barbel+ chub ecs ecs will be able to get up this pass,?? if so is it possible that any weir with a pass could become void of any decent sized fish. billy. i have found a file about the weir, but it wont let me upload it,???? any ideas.

yes it does mean that fish will move up and down more often, maybe we should ask them to make a ford to the large stone slabs just above the weir to get in to the park

hi glenn. it wont let me send it on email, very strange, but i got a drawing up of the hydro screw, and where the wall is to the left of the weir, it is coming round the back of the wall and the outlet will be below the weir to where we fish from now. OMG lads it looks like no more fishing from the sandy bit on the weir. billy.

Hi Billy,
I imagine any further high water will change weir and present new spots for fishing, once the screw is in place. At least, I hope so

Stringers wier
A fish Pass is not required at stringers just like it isn't required at otterspool but it does sound better to the un educated masses re none anglers when it comes to planning aplications. All species can migrate up stream and down stream in times of high water if they feel the need.
You will never defeat nature, ther are know straight lines in nature and believe me Mother Nature will always win.

I hope the fish pass is a better design than the New Mills one. This is very near to the screw, and I cannot really see why any fish would prefer the fish pass to the screw. Are they not just attracted by the flow? I envisage many fish being mangled, and if the Stringers fish pass is close to the screw it would also pose a risk. I suspect that blocking off the pass during the migratory season might even be beneficial, in the hope that the fish prefer the high life of a weir jump.
New Mills was supposed to be installing a fish counter in the pass. Anyone know if it has been completed?

The notice I saw was w.r.t. a planning application for screwing up the river, but it was maybe a couple of years ago.
