If it is a water supply reservoir they could also use the "tapwater" outflow to generate power.

Harrison's weir has also been considered for power, but I can't remember whether it was given the go ahead.

Hi Jerry, Sadly the public meeting has already been held. very little publicity, for I should have liked to have been there. A meeting of our own is possible, but unless we can drag in the planners it will not have much effect. I think PM and Otterspool are the schemes in which we have an interest.
But what we really need is a date for the planning meeting. Are you able to get those details from the FED? If the planning meeting has already gone ahead, then we are too late.
The score is, I believe, that the public can attend but are not allowed to speak at planning meetings, but they can write in or get their councillor to speak for them. We cannot just let the FED object by itself. We should add our own separate weights.
We need a planning application reference number, and the date for the meeting. Can you get them from the FED? Then massed letters and cajoling of councillors, stating effects on environment, wildlife, personal enjoyment of the sites. The more letters the better. I have already written to my councillor, and I will write again. has anyone else done similar?
Get the public involved, letters to papers, but concentrate on wildlife, for that is what appeals to them most, whilst also giving angling a mention.

I'll help in anyway. Maybe it would help to show people the payback times, running and realistic maintenance costs that they always leave out on these things.

I wrote to Les Jones, my local councillor. Stockport council web site lists all the councillors, including yours Jerry.

Mention the dippers nesting if you phone the Express or the Stockport times. The public at large have more interest in fluffy little birds than slimy old fish.
I think they are one of only two pairs nesting near Stiockport.

I had a quick unsuccessful search for some output figers from the New Mills hydro. It would be good to see what the real output is to what was said before it was installed.

I can setup a website that will let people vote and maybe post comments

OK will do. I spoke to the chape from H2ope - Home, these are the people that will be building it.

I read an artical here
Withington Co-operative Party: Hydro Scheme For Stockport

Quote:
Two hydro power schemes have been given the go-ahead in Stockport. Otterspool Weir and Stringer Weir are archimedian screw setups which together will generate over 500MWh/yr. H2oPE a social enterprise is developing the two sites for construction in 2010.

Both schemes will be owned by the community with surplus profits funding further environmental schemes in Stockport.

The schemes are to be funded by a mixture of grants, a share offer and bank loan. Share prospectus are due out early next year and there will soon be a web site for your to register your interest in receiving a copy. We will announce this when it is online.

H2oPE is funded by the Co-operative Group, Joseph Rowntrees Charitable Trust and Key Fund Yorkshire.
The chap from H20pe said that they have not been given the go-ahead from the council and funding is still not in place.
They are hoping to start building late summer 2010 if not it will be 2011.

They said that the H2ope website is being revamped and all update and news about the project will be on there.

I added a comment too, but I am not sure whether that site has ANY impact on planning at all.
