Barbel fishing is back on!!
Hi just a quick note to introduce me to Barbel Hunters Forum. I was introduced to Barbel fishing about 5 years ago by a good friend who had been fishing for predominantly Barbel and Chub for the 20+ years. As soon as I caught my first Barbel which was a 4lb 10oz fish from the River Severn at Severn Stoke I was hooked (sorry for the pun). When I first started Barbel fishing I was living in the Gloucestershire area so my fishing exploits were based mainly on the River Severn but often frequented the River Avon and Thames. I’m now based in Shropshire and all of my fishing is on the River Severn and when I first moved up here in October 2006 my first Barbel was the elusive double figure fish that I had just fell short of so many times before with plenty of fish to the late nines. I caught it at Montford Bridge and it was a 10lb 9oz Specimen and it took me several hours to stop shaking, fantastic (the fish appears on the Wingfield Arms website and on their day tickets). Unfortunately since then due to personal circumstances (a women) I’ve not been fishing much since although on the occasions I have been caught several fish between 6lb and 9lb. Anyway said women has now been expunged from my life and the hunger to go fishing is back so watch this space, with lots of new ideas and new tactics let’s see the Barbel role in (12lb+ by the end of the season is my quest). Cheers Jam
