Default Hi to everyone from fishanchips
Hi to all you barbel hunters,

Just thought I say hello and introduce myself.
I'm just in the last month back to angling having not fished since the late 1970's. OMG hasn't it all changed since then.

My 1st outing had me off to the local river and trotting a single maggot hoping for some roach or dace. I caught nothing (blanked I think you call it) but got chatting to a regular angler and learnt that there were hardly and "silverfish" left as the area is plagued by cormorants.

I got home and Googled silverfish & cormorants and learnt plenty.

The 2nd outing was a switch to ledger tactics with luncheon meat on a size 8 hook. My bait kept vanishing yet no bites?

Another friendly angler, another chat and I now learn about the signal crayfish, pellets, local barbel, hair rigs and so on.

Home again and more Googling. What's a hair rig? How do I tie one? What kit & bait do I need for barbel?

Monday morning was a visit to the local tackle shop. The afternoon was spent tying a few of these "newfangled" hair rigs.

Tuesday was back to the river and wow - My 1st ever barbel just over 2' long - How's that for beginners luck? Anyway Mr barbel was hooked and now so am I!

It's great to find out so much useful info from all you "experts".
Hope that in time I can contribute too.
