On the jetty it is, I'll remove on the way home shortly... It's something that makes my blood boil, just pure bone-idleness.

The weir at Heaton Mersey had a rather unusual resident this morning, as I walked down to it, there was a man in a dry suit prodding around with a kind of rake. He'd already removed another Shopping Trolley. As I rounded the corner to where the Salmon statue is located his allegiance was revealed. A long wheeled based Transit resplendent with EA graphics down the side became visible. His workmate stood on the top bank receiving instructions.

To cut a long story short, they'll be getting a wagon down there with chains to drag the "stuck" obstacles out. The man in the river also acted as some kind of depth gauge. I took a mental note of where the water came to on his suit...

Good news.

Now for the bad, the outflow this morning seemed to be leading a life of its own. There was a fair roar coming from that area as it poured it's mess in. Everything below there is now running a rather milky brown colour. The scum and misty in appearance bubbles do not make for pleasant viewing at all.

I'm unsure whether to phone the EA regarding this? I took the liberty of taking a shot or two, so I'll post later when I get home and you'll see the distinct difference in water colour/quality.

A cause for concern nonetheless.

That's the one, it looks disgusting. Just downstream a man was throwing sticks for his dog (into the River near the Island at BRFC), I did warn him. He seemed to be less than concerned...

Images as promised, the first hardly looks conclusive, but the second...

Is that coloration the whole water column mark, or just the surface scum? It looks like the whole of it to me, and I have certainly not seen it that bad before.
I also phoned the EA on the basis of mark's photos.
Do we think there might have been a fish kill Mark? Or have you seen rises?

If anyone is down there let us know if any fish are seen. Usually easy to find minnows. Under nasty water conditions other fish may not show, they may be sick, or might even have died, although I would have expected something in the News. Mark, I suggest you add your EA voice too, especially as you have the photos. 0800 80 70 60 emergency hotline.
The river below that outfall should be clear at the moment. Obviously it isn't and something bad has happened to that outflow.

I couldn't say for sure whether there's been a fish kill. The colouration is throughout the depth of the water for sure. The water is still holds this colouration down to Cheadle Bridge (I have not ventured further than this though). The streamer weed seems to have collected quite a bit of this discharge.

I'm kicking myself now as I should have phoned the EA too today .

I've not seen any rises downstream of the outflow, but in saying that I've seen very few above it too.

My planned trip out over the weekend has had some of the sheen knocked off it. I reckon it'd be a struggle with the conditions as they have been, but this certainly won't help whatsoever.

I'll try and have a mooch round over the weekend and see if there are any casualties...
