Description: Magpies do not seem to like being near people at all. So it took me a hell of a long time to get near enough to one to take a couple of half decent photos. This bird finally came within about a yard of me to pose. Not quite a robin's friendliness, but getting there.

Description: 27/4/2012. One of a pair of terns that carried out a few raids on the ponds, occasionally pausing in flight, to dive vertically after small fish. The flight is very fast, and somewhere between graceful and ungainly. Taken at a Warrington Nature Reserve.

Description: 29/3/2012 Dovestones Reservoir. Not a great picture, but didn't really know what the bird was. No problem...as I continued walking I saw an RSPB van, with someone leaning into it doing something with a bird box. "Excuse me, Mr RSPB man, but could you tell me whether this bird is a skylark?" RSPB person turns around. "It's Miss RSPB actually and the bird is a meadow pipit." I saw immediately that she was very flat chested, tall, and bookish and I wondered whether she thought I had classified her as male AFTER she had turned to face me. I resisted the strong temptation to say something like "Ah well, that is two birds I have misidentified within minutes." Felt a bit of a pratensis myself.
