If your only fishing for that extra hour then why not go for a Wind Up head Torch ?

You can't go wrong with those Drennan Isotopes

hi paul, use a energizer 3 led headlight £10 B&Q,have used this for the last 2 years more than adequate without being like a searchlight on your head.get yourself some enterprise tackle avon/barbel rodtip nightlite adaptors & a packet of 2 green drennan isotopes ,be bout another tenner of ebay, use the enterprise adaptors rather than the ones that come with the isotopes as i always had a problem with line rap round, might jus be me tho lol, hope this helps. dave

Default head light
have a look at the cree head torch on ebay , a lot of lads swear by them, very bright and a snip at around 4 quid. might be to bright for small rivers so you could go for these babyies gamma head light from ALPKIT.COM

Th chub sat-a-lite sl 100 is great for a tenner, white and red lights on them.

I've been using this model for the last three years, there are plenty of different makes and models on the market, but I went for this one as it was recommended by someone who really knows about these things. It's not let me down at all. The red led light on the back is pretty much redundant as I'm not likely to be walking on the mountains at night.

It has some useful functions, the main flood light is very bright, this can be dimmed at the press of a button. The flashing white flood light may be of more use in a nightclub . Above the main bulb are 3 led lights... white, red and green. The red one being very useful for baiting up at night.

Try and get one where there is an on/off switch that doesn't cycle through the entire range of light settings.
