I don't want to be evasive in my answer but shelf life V frozen is a debate all of its own; personally I have no real preferrence but am aware of the pros they both offer:

Shelf life - Stronger smelling, easier storage, more convient to buy, greater number of easily obtainable matching products (dips, glugs etc).

Frozen - A more subtle scent, can often prove cheaper, softer and easier to incorporate into a (homemade) paste, should (?) have a greater level of available nutrition (this is one of the contentious issues).

Certainly if I was only looking at using a smallish amount (10kg or less) I'd opt for shelf life.
Plenty of options out there:
Dynamite Baits - Source, Spicy Shrimp and Prawn, Spicy Tuna and Sweet Chilli, Monster Crab.
Berkley Gulp - Spicy Tuna, Seafood One, Halibut and Crab.

Whatever you go for, IMO best to select a 10mm one, as in winter the only time to go bigger is in flood and then wrap it in paste. For barbel I only ever use fishmeal based boilies, no matter what season.

have you thought of making your own? if your cash strapped as most students seem to be its very cost effective to do your own, loads of recipes online, ingredients are cheap as chips, and you don't need fancy rolling tables or a boilie gun,i often just make the mix up and hand roll them to whatever size i want, and i don't always make round ones either, its good fun,and if/when you catch on a homemade bait its an extra buzz, give it a go cheef.you can also use some of the mix to keep as your wrapping paste as well.plus if you make loads you can whack em in the freezer.simples
cheers
kev.

Chris - the second one you mention has caught me a couple of doubles this season. I go for shelf life, mainly as I don't have a bait freezer in the cellar.

Wey-laid has a point about 10mm boilies for winter, however I catch on 15mm boilies all year round. If struggling, elips pellets always come into their own as a smaller bait.

Good luck whatever you decide

Richard

Quests baits are good , glad you've had some out on them, my season is that poor I could electro fish the river and still bloody blank

Same as you I go for shelf life as no bait freezer and the "one who must be obeyed " would banish me if I kick the food out the kitchen freezer to make way for bait , mmmmm not entirely a bad idea actually, I'd be able to spend more time on the bank

Thats it I'm off to replace the Sunday meat with a bag of 15mm's

Chris
