Doubt i will be out for a few months now as back down south, that will give you time to refine the mix ready for when i come back up for some
Guys, to you doubters out there, 2 of us did 48 hours, i had 2 barbel, the biggest fell to these.

Okay mate cheers for that. Enjoy it down South mate. I am in Scotland myself staying with my family over Christmas so I myself won't be back on the rivers until January. Gives me time to make more boilies I guess. It could also be that the fish need to get used to seeing them in the water. When I caught on them I used a stringer with 3 or 4 offerings around the one I was using. Maybe something to think about?

i shall be giving your boilies a good go tomorrow, conditions were far from perfect last time, conditions are seriously more favourable and i know the fish are feeding so we'll see what happens, boilies have been frozen so will be interesting to see if the smell is any better.

I did use the stringers, cut the boilies in half to help the smell escape, seemed to work as had the fish like that.

I will begin by stating; this is no way a dig at anyone but I'm going state a few observation and figures that have brought me a wry smile.
Manufacturing.
Ricky why would you use frozen ingredients, have them thaw during the manufacturing process, refreeze them as a made up boilie, then obviously the bait will re-thaw while being deliverd, only for the recipient to refreeze them yet again. So from its start to ending up in the water, some of your least stable yet key inclusions have been frozen and thawed at least 3 times.
Would it not be better to use only fresh ingredients and/or non-perishables ones, make the boilies. Then when air dried dispatch them?
Cost.
By my reckoning as an average you get in the region of 550-600 14mm boilies in a kilo. You guys are getting 30 boilies (aprox 52 grams) for £2.50, I put that at £48 a kilo. Take off the 36p postal charge, leaves it at £41.
All this for what is in all honesty, not the most elusive of fish and if used well, will take pretty much any anglers bait.
I have a few special boilies for trial if anyone wants, pm me if interested?!

I agree with pretty much everything you've said which is why I am looking into making the bait more stable. But like I have explained the oil used was hydrogenated thus, meaning it doesn't/shouldn't go off. But you're right in the sense that they do need modified and that's what I am looking into it now. Freezing and thawing has not caused myself any issues whatsoever but it seems that it has to other people. I certainly would not sell my boilies at £41 per kilo mate. The £2.50 just insured I was not losing a lot of money on them, that's all. I don't mass produce and can get cheap ingredients like bait companies can I have to buy them the same way as you would mate which isn't cheap. I have to stand there and roll them which takes ages when I have a rolling table that only rolls ten at a time etc. Anyway the cost was fair for what it cost to send and the amount of jiffy bags I had to buy. Of course the more you buy the less the price is like any companies you buy boilies from. I however am not a company I just wanted people to field test them and report back.
I am definitely going to start this week making more with a more stable ingredient ultimately that can be frozen and thawed easily without losing the quality and send to those that haven't caught on them free of charge if they reported back to me that they have indeed caught nothing on them. I certainly would not rip anyone off, I just wanted testers for a bait I made, that has caught me fish despite being frozen, thawed and re-frozen time and time again. Even during testing I did this and saw barbel eating them in clear water.
I don't agree entirely that barbel will take any anglers bait, mainly because I have sat bite less for hours on pellets but caught on meat and vice-versa, of course they're there but there is days when they prefer something different. Big barbel are elusive, in fact try catching double after double, it just doesn't happen. Of course anyone can go out and catch small barbel to 9Lbs (not elusive) but the bigger fish are not easy and sometimes a lot of ground work is needed to catch these fish, it rarely just happens by chance.
I think you're right about using non perishables though and dispatching them when air dried so I thank you for that idea, I think this is the route I'll go down not to lose the quality. Although I do have to find out whether these would go off with the ingredients I use first.

Regards refreezing it can be done endlessly without causing any problems, it really matters what the items get subjected to during its thawed out peiod that can have the biggest effect. Left next to a heater at postal sorting office etc

Again a very interesting post that I have took on board and I thank you for that. I beg to differ however on the *If Used well* element, as I don't know how exactly you mean that bait to be used well. If for example, I am using the same rig on each and the same line, and it's presented the same way as meat that's catching well how do you define "used well"? That's certainly not a dig I am just interested in hearing your view on it as a lot of what you say makes sense and have learnt a lot off you already with your first and second post.
I agree with the smell element mate in Summer, something I have always thought myself (catching on a non flavoured boilie for example) although in Winter is that smell more important than it is in Summer? Barbel predominately scent feeders, is that leak of oil important to achieve good results in Winter? Personally, although I have witnessed barbel behaviour and spent a lot of time on the bank watching them for years I still don't have definitive proof for one or the other as watching barbel in Winter on the Trent and to some large degree anywhere else for that matter is very difficult (They tend to be in deeper water).
To make the boilie smell more fishy is one avenue I am set to go down before inspecting other elements like lack of oil dispersing etc.
It stands to reason that leakage from boilies, pellets and fish leak their oils more in Summer due to water temps being higher which do travel further and quicker downstream but in Winter these oils become trapped within the boilie or pellet, thus not attracting the barbel in the same way. Maybe this is something I need to look into, making the oils within the boilie separate from them by using neat vodka (next thing on my list)?
I don't know how important the smell is during Winter as oppose to Summer, although I do know the oil within bait during the summer attracts barbel, weather indeed the smell does as well is up for debate but I do agree for now on what you have said (non important) unless someone can tell me otherwise, I don't have the answers to that question scientifically but you could be right.
Very interesting like I say mate. I would not take it like you were having a dig mate, you had a very good argument or point with what you said. Thanks again.

Just been told that I have been accepted to do a feature in the Summer for IYCF regarding the Rubby Dubby mix. I'm made up, just a little nervous I blow it. So you will all see how it works when it goes to print.
