For those that dare bother the cold just how many days do you manage to find fishable during the winter season?

Difficult to say how many sessions but I have always found the worst time to fish is when water temperatures just starts to fall due to high pressure coupled with over night frosts or when there is snow melt entering the river.
However temperatures are relative and 5 degrees and rising is probably better than say 8 degrees and falling.
If we have a prolonged settled period of weather even if it is very cold with a water temperature of 5 degrees or so the fish will get use to this and may feed well even if only for short periods. I remember a session a couple of pals and myself had on the lower Severn at Severn Stoke the day after boxing day some years ago now in conditions like this infact the water temperature was 4.9 degrees and we all caught.
