Depends entirely on the time, place and prevailing conditions. If I could only have one universal barbel bait then it would probably be pellets. I'll usually take pellet, meat and boilies with me for a days barbelling.

As Sam says above, depends on the time, place and prevailing conditions. Try not to get obsessed with just one bait or method.
On a three hour evening sesion last year with two buddies (one meat man, one pellet man) conditions made me opt for the maggot feeder which took the only barbel plus a nice perch and chub. Good luck or peg we'll never know, but don't be afraid of a change.

Short term it would have to be a low oil pellet but a long term approach i would use a boilie

always seem to do better on boilies but when struggling for a fish always go back to big chunk of spam

i used to use maggets and a good smelly ground bait

but this year im going to use pellets

did read some where that strawburry flavour was good but not tryed it myself
