Default Line not peeling freely off closed face reel
Was trotting today with my daiwa 123m but I keep getting issues with the line not freely peeling from the reel i have to give the rod a jerk to get the line moving again, I tried putting a heavier float on but it didnt seem to cure the problem. Do you think maybe I need new line?
Any ideas?

I have an ABU 506 that I use occasionally in the summer. Initially, I spooled on a full 100metre's of 3lb line & had the same problem...
One day another angler was talking to me on the bank & he could see I was having casting & trotting problems. He was a seasoned matchman & had used ABU closed faced reels since the 70's. He suggested I removed about half the line & it would prevent the 'bedding in' problem that people often experience with this style of reel. I did as he suggested & it cured the problem

Any help for you?

I agree with Barry.

I've used my Abu 506 closed face reel since the late 70's and theres no need to fill your spool with line because of the way the line comes away from the spool. 50 mtrs is all you need in most situations. the spool is so small and narrow that bedding in is a common problem if you put too much line on.

Totally agree with the previous two posts, too much line can cause bedding in problems.

A quick spray of line floatant (Garbolino Line Float Spray - Matchman Supplies or similar) can solve the problem and keeps your line on the surface, depending on how long your sessions are, one or two sprays is often enough.

But 50 yards on the spool is more than ample in most cases.
