Hi Dan,

There's so many lines out there it'd be impossible to give you "the" line to use. It's all down to personal preference and having the confidence in the product you're using.

I've been using this (although the stick floats haven't been out of my box this season due to Barbelitis )

Preston Reflo Direct Mono Line O

I think it does it's job quite well, hooklinks, again there are so many to choose from that I doubt that there's much difference in them if any.

There's some Fox stuff that comes with a main spool and a smaller spool that's not going to break the bank, so that may be worth investing in. Again have a look in the tackle shop/online, make a decision and give it a fair go. If it's not what you're looking for, try something else.

Asking for what lines to use on the internet is going to get you a little confused as everybody has their own opinions/favourites.

If there's indeed a "hole" in the run through, set the float overdepth (for the main run) and hold it back a little until you get down the swim, then let it go. It really is trial and error. If you've got your floats shotted correctly it shouldn't dive under though

I was advised by a good centrepin angler (chavender I think it was) to try some Ultima Flo-cast line for trotting.
Its a bit like Marmite; Some love it and others hate it.

Here is an extact from the review link above:

"Flo-Cast is a unique development in monofilament technology. The first line to be introduced with a hollow centre core and grooved surface, giving a line that casts longer, floats higher and is resistant to twisting and kinking."

I have used it on my centrepin and It does what it says on the packet, although I haven't tried it in extreme cold yet and it says something about losing some of its hollow advantages in severe cold conditions.

It has a slight increase in diameter (eg. 0.18mm for 4lb line and 0.20mm for 5lb line) however it floats high in the water and gives a reduced footprint, plus it's very pale pinkish hue makes it hard to see from below and makes casting a doddle and also mending your line is easier because of the ease that it lifts off of the surface. Plus it knots well using a 5 turn Grinner knot or a Palomar knot.

I use a normal mono line from the float down to the hook of course.

I have also caught some nice double figure Carp using it with surface baits on my local estate lake during the summer.

They don't sell it in some tackle shops and I had to travel to 'Walkers Pitch" tackleshop in Sandy Beds to get mine.

I still occasionally use Drennan Float-Fish especially in very cold conditions but after giving Flo-Cast a go I must admit I'm beginning to like it.
