There ARE daft questions Riverside, but yours was not one of them. I don't know anything about the two rods you have chosen, but most modern rods are highly suitable for the purpose written on the tin.
I personally think rod choice is all a bit overhyped, and that once you spend over 50 quid or so then there is fairly minimal difference: all will land fish for you, and if you do lose one, it is unlikely to be the rod that was the cause. You can spend lots of money, but much of it has probably been spent on making the rod look pretty. For barbel, where the rod spends much of its time on a rod rest, the loss of an extra ounce of weight is hardly important enough to lash out an extra day's pay.
After a 30+ year break from fishing I came back to barbel fishing with some old homemade 11 foot fibreglass jobs. Very old fashioned these days, but they caught barbel quite efficiently, and even a few catfish. After 18 months I did lash out 100 quid for a pair of multi tip carbon fibre rods. They too have been fine, but the improvements, although noticeable, would not have really been missed had I continued to use the older fibreglass jobs.
P.S. 50 quid for a rod seemed horrendous...I had never spent more than about a fiver making or buying a rod before!

On action, as Peter has said, a lot comes down to personal preference, and if it feels good for you, go for it. ( I tend to agree with his mate's preferences for a more tippy action though, and for the exact reasons stated. )

OK Jay, I stand corrected, there probably are some daft questions, but this wasn't one of them

I agree with you that if the rod feels right when casting, and playing/landing the fish, then that's the way of judging the rod, not the test curve.

Cheers, Nick
