Sorry Glenn.

But when I have phoned it (twice now) nothing at all was done!!

I wonder if anyone phoned it on the 6th June when half a million tones of un-treated sewage (yes that is 500,000 tones) was pumped into the Tidal Thames!!

Again huge fish kill and the EA response was a PR exercise banging on (AGAIN) about Salmon in the Thames!
Not sure who it was but someone once said

"A measure of civilisation is the distance between Man and his faeces!"

You might expect this in a third world country but for Thames Water (a private company owned by the bloody french) to do this legally without recourse in one of the worlds largest capital cities, is not only a scandal of biblical proportions but also an indication of just how pointless and in-capable the EA really are!

I can hear anglers saying “this is terrible” but in fact Thames Water discharge similar amounts into the Thames 3-4 times a year, mostly the river can handle this but if there is a flash flood it all gets dumped in one go.
At one time there were storage facilities for this but upon privatisation the land was sold off to become housing!

On one of the occasions when I did telephone the “hotline” diesel oil was flowing down the river Ivel for 5 hours and no-one could be bothered to come out and have a look.
It happened on a Sunday and I went for a walk and found the source, even then they could not find anyone to come and see/ take samples!!

On the other occasion I was fishing the Thames at Windsor and a sight seeing / disco boat rushing home after dropping the drunken revellers at 2am, running with no navigation lights swamped me (and I mean swamped, I was swept into the river with all my tackle and I had to wade out of 4ft of water), upon phoning the EA (who licence these boats, I was told I needed an independent witness and / or photographic evidence (my camera is still in the river), the upshot is that the EA did absolutely SFA, AND treated me like I was an idiot!!

Next time will phone the Salvation Arm, they will be just as capable and effective as the EA and have a FAR better telephone manner!!

The EA have no officers on the ground..................
Those they have are far to busy chasing waste offenders where the fines are easily collected....
Sewerage discharges are very difficult to trace or prove
Whatever they got rid of the NRA for they did us a major injustice
