Default New Record Barbel
I think a new record is in the making, with all of the high protine baits we are using. The warmer winters are helping as well, and an abundance of crays to eat!!!
As for the river: The Ouse in Buckinghamshire.
I do hope it is not the Kennet as i fish it and like it as it is!!!
Infact if i was lucky enough to catch a record i would not report it.Because once you do you can kiss goodbye to a quiet day out,as the circus will be in town, we will be like the Carp boys named fish and all that goes with it.

i agree wisker back in the early ninties i had a big fish from a water and was sure it would have smashed the club record if not the english but kept it quite as you said whod want the circus coming in and as they do pile it the bait ruin the swims and just mess up a good strech just to get the big one out thats not what river fishings about i dont see much water craft going on now days just hair riggin and over baiting dont get me wrong it has its times but as a skill theres not much to it.oh yea i think the record will come from the thames!!

Nah you guys have got it all wrong, the next english barbel record will either come from the severn or trent & putting my money where my mouth is, it'll be the trent, without a doubt, because lets face it a fish of 22lbs from the trent was unclaimed at the begining of last season, which from the captors point of view was the right thing to do so be it his/her choice.

Putting it this way if i became the next record barbel captor next season, personally out of gaining an achievement, i would claim it but only if i could keep the venue quite from all the glory hunters/fish chasers & press.

How's this for sitting on the fence i agree will all you boys, but i think that you can rule out the Severn. Thames holds some real whackers as does the Trent, but i would love a real surprise like when the Medway threw up 'Bertie' that was a real surprise.

After the very hard winter we have just gone through I was initially in some doubt to whether the record would fall. BUT a distinctive fish was caught yesterday from my local river a full pound heavier than when a friend caught her last September, she has obviously over wintered well as these fish have definately spawned some weeks ago.
I think that the Trent cannot be ruled out at throwing a lump up, how authentic the 22 was we will never know.....
