Default fishing line
i have only ever used maxima mono for many years and found it very good. but the amount of different lines out now is vast. looking at flourocarbon line is it any good. can u tie hooks on with it.? is it as good as the manufacturers say.

I have used Shimano Technium as a mainline in various bs over the years and have found it 100% reliable. Good abrasion resistance and good knot strength. Expensive compared to other lines, but for the peace of mind it gives me when playing a good fish its worth every penny.

Billy i had been using for two years maxima mono. Ive had no problems with it apart from people said use clear line instead of the brown colour it will help your catch rate..... hopefully.
so i have been using gardners hydro-flo line this season so far. I am abit unsure about it!! what i would say is you have to check and tie your knots correctly and its abit springy but it seems to be really strong!!!

cheers jamie

Billy i was fishing last saturday night and got fed-up of every fish i caught small chub.... not monster barbel ! but every fish hydro-flo line would go like a coil spring ! so it wouldn't lie flat on the river bed...... .
so cut the line remove a couple of feet then re-tie your rig.....
So got bored of that !
On barbel world theres a thread on there talking about line and Rich p said hes been using berkleys big game line and it was good! and backed up by other users too.
So bought some its cheap and after using it last night with no problems after a few fish it still lay flat no coiling up and it seems strong!!!

cheers jamie

Hi Jamie,

Berkely Big Game is my choice of reel line, has been for many years! I even use it abroad. Funny how some lines come and go yet others stay the same! I know many Maxima fans - anyone remember sylcast sorrel?
