Hi Rich, yes it was a lovely fish, got a real close look at it as I was standing on a rocking outcrop and it came up to the surface. School boy error, had I not left my landing net 10 feet behind me in all the excitement I might have bagged it there and then!
The 10lb line issue is probably down to my being naive about the fish patrolling up and down the Wye . I never in a month of Sunday's expected to encounter anything quite like that. After so long away, I obviously need to get back to grips with a few basics.
No the lead was no longer attached, however there was a kink in the line where it had broken, so I wondered whether it had snapped right at the very end at the knot which means the lead would have slipped off?

Hi Moff - I know what you mean about basics.....however, I've been broken by (what felt like) good sized fish twice in the last fortnight. The first was a clean break...probably the line was weakened as there are load of snags in the swim. The second fish took me into one of the said snags and managed to plant my hook in a log....not sure how it managed that. On both occasions I was chatting or making up another rod...so not concentrating. Stupid really.
If the lead was free-running I'm sure it's off.
I hope you connect with the big girl again...

Hello JayZs (and everyone else),
O.K. I looked into your idea of the Lead Clip, and bought some from my local tackle shop. Got home, pretty much sussed what you needed to do with all the bits, but I can't for the life of me work out what to do with the "green tubing" that comes with the kit? The destructions aren't that clear (or is it me being dense?). Can you or anyone else help? I'm intending to try the Soar this weekend and would like to try the clips whilst there.
Thanks & Regards,
Moff.

your main line goes through the tubing which slot into the rubber tail. Its mainly used for anti-tangle rigs in carp fishing with short hook lengths not sure if there'd be any point to it if the hook length was longer than the tubing.

If you put a flying back lead on above the tubing and it will nail it to the bottom, this is to avoid spooking feeding fish.
