Default off the bottom
its a bit like stick float fishing off the bottom 6 inchs off bottom etc, barbel take sweetcorn and even pellets float fished,so in theory they should, might have to hav a try with a pop up bait

Default Using popups
Hi there I fish the Dane& Trent and use popups all the time I've modified my usual rig to take a popup,I'll increase the hair length and put a BB right under the bait then shave it until it becomes critticaly balanced the bait then wafts up and slowly drops back hopefully like a freebie the slightest suck and the bait shoots into the mouth, fantastic for shy feeding fish.
