dunno ive tried the others but had limited success but put one of these beasts on and they mash it to bits, you would think that you could get a few fish out of a slug but its usually mushed to bits or chopped clean in half .

Bl**dy Hell think I’m going to have to start marketing/selling the ones in my back garden tons of big black ones with red skirts it’s a regular slug fest round here in Shropshire and they seem to love the dry dog food they even get into the utility room where the dog food is keep and if the lid of the plastic container is not on properly they find their way in there! As for wasp grubs I have heard this before too can’t remember where but just don’t fancy getting hold of any don’t like wasp’s!! Controversial maybe but I’ve also heard that snails are pretty good too......anybody with comments on snail-gate???

Snails work. All naturals work; caterpillars, beetles, baby frogs, you name it!

good point, but i base it on the fact that they dont take the brown ones without a red/orange skirt or is it that the black ones resemble a leech??? hmmm didnt think of that before lol, now that poses another question.....wonder if cats could be fooled by the same bait as i know they go mad for leeches............any thoughts chaps

I'm with JayZS on this one - chub eat slugs! Simples. If they thought they were mussels wouldn't they spit them out having realised the terrible mistake?

I've observed chub taking slugs from the trailing marginal plants on a rising river, and at night you can hear the slurping noises as they feed on them. When using them on a low clear river as a stalking bait i'm sure it's just the fact that they make a nice loud plop as they hit the surface that attracts the chub. Many other baits would produce the same result it's just that the humble slug is readily available on the banks so you don't have to lug bait boxes about, has enough casting weight to be freelined and best of all - they're free!

Haven't caught a barbel on one yet though . . .
