Slugs as a natural bait??
Has anybody used slugs as a natural bait for Barbel? As I just been out in the garden and my faithfully buddy Harry the dog’s food bowl was outside with a bit of dry dog food left in it and the bowl was full with SLUGS!!

Well, I keep reading that they make good bait. Some use the term "par excellence". Been reading that since Richard Walker's coarse fishing days. However the utter revulsion that I would myself feel if I tried to eat one rubs off on me, and I have rarely tried one on the hook. Lots of them on the banks though, and if the chub/barbel do like them, any flood will probably introduce a few free samples for you.

I know an old guy that uses them on the canal for the carp, he swears by them plus they are free.
but for me , I'll stick to pellets

barbel would probably pick them up ,they pick most things up,fish are curious creatures imo... youlld be better off tho freelining the slugs for chub, they love em,they really take them aggressively, but take a damp cloth with you to get the slime off your hands!!

When all other baits fail a large black slug will have the chub ripping the rod out of your hands. But never ever had a barbel on them and ive used them a good few years.

yes top chub bait is this,i've had some good uns on them, try not to store them any length of time in a bait box though, the amount of slime they produce is horrendous and in a very short time ewwww.best hooked through the middle of the back or in the heel at the back end. oh yeah and........keep hold of ya rod!

Ahhh good for Chub, interesting!! As I said was in the back garden late and there was an abundance of them in and around the dog bowl (thought ah easy pickings) so was just wondering and I seem to remember watching a DVD where someone took a Barbel on one. Me thinks a little Chub session coming up see if it beats my cheese paste then, always good to try something new (although not so for you guys as many have tried them before) thanks!!
