For those not able to get the hang of the Wallis cast, I seem to remember years ago we used a small bit of dowel with a brass hook inserted on the end and closed up, you put the reel line inside the hook before it goes through the first ring and hold at 90% to the reel in your left hand, if you are right handed. It works but a bit of a fanny on, or even simpler method is Chris Lyons method, take the reel or spool of the pin or rod and hold as if it was a RW rolling pin in your left hand, this does work. I have never found great accuracy with any method. Be very careful with the Wallis cast I have seen many an angler with a hook embedded in there left hand.
