Default What size hook, to what size bait.
Hi, i'm fairly new to barbel fishing and i was wondering when you hair rig baits ie bollies and pellets is there a general rule to match the hook size to the bait size you are using. for example if you are using a 14mm bollie what hook size would you use, any help will be grateful.

cheers leo.

i generally use a size 10 for most of my barbel fishing, anything bigger than 10mm upto 21mm, anything smaller than 10mm down to 8mm i use a size 12 as 10s just seem a pinch to big, if i,m using really big baits like huge chunks of meat or real big pellets i,ll go as big as a size 4
tight lines
jerry

Hi Leo, it's quite simple to work out. Hold a baited rig above your head and close one eye. You should be able to see the barb, but not the shank.
No barb = hook too small
See shank = hook too big

Lost me there completely. Think I need it in diagrammatic form. :-)
