Default How much line?
Hi. I've just got a question for the center-pin users. I'm sorry if its been covered on the forum before.

How much line do you load onto the spool of a center-pin for fishing for Barbel?
I would normally use 50-75 yds for trotting for chub, but just wondered about barbel.
Many thanks.

Thanks Kev. Is there any easy way of knowing how much line you've put on you reel from a bulk spool. It's so much easier with a 100mtr spool of line!
Cheers.

there was a formula i saw once for working it out, can't recall where i saw it,but it was on the net somewhere,if i can find it i'll post it,you measure the drum diameter then work out how many turns it takes to spool 1 yard on then you multiply it by the number of turns,or just put a 100 on and sod all that calculation lol

I use just over a hundred mts.
All depends on the river aswell as take the severn long way out & deep
You use 8ish mts just from pin to hook, cast out 10-20 mts leaves you 70 mts
A barbel can strip 50 mtrs in no time on the severn,so you just have way it up mate.

Pi times d.

But putting it simply, each turn of the reel handle will load approximately 3 times the spool diameter. So if your centrepin spool is 4 inches across ( measured at the point where the line goes on, not at the flange width), each revolution of the handle will equate to a foot of line.

You want 100 metres, which is not vastly more than 100 yards. Wind the handle 300 times and you will be fairly near 100 metres for a 4 inch spool.
For a 3 inch spool turn the handle 400 times for a similar amount.

I've a good one - get your reel and line, and sit down in front of a Robson Green fishing programme. Wind as fast as you can until you get bored or offended or both, then stop. That's usually about 2 turns. Repeat 150 times. The downside to that approach is that you may never want to fish again.
