have to agree, think this moon phase thing is a load of lunacy (pun intended)

Default Solunar theory - Fact or Fiction ?
Hi everyone

Right then , just want to open a little debate on the solunar moon phase theory, is there solid evidence to back it up, or is it mumbo jumbo thought up by some crystal swinging druids , we all know the moons gravitational pull influences the ocean tides on earth, but does it really have any effect on our freshwater quarry ?? can a good day on the bank be put down to the moonrise – moonset theory or is it just a case of right location right time, and vise-versa ,did you blank because of the wrong “sort” of moon or was it just a bad day on the bank ??
Can the sun / moon really play that big a part in a fishes feeding habits or are factors like water temperature , atmospheric pressure and water level / colour more the reason for the fish “havin” it on any given day ??

What are your thought guys

Cheers

chris

Question
interesting subject chris, when i spent all my time in the 70s/80s carping had all my biggest fish when moon was just a slither either waxing or waning, full moon ment blank i have found the reverse with barbel all my bigger fish have been caught in the full moon period, tend to not dwell on it all too much as would probably do your head in ,i have to fish when i can & if took too much notice of phases might end up going few times a year so everyones no better off reading this than what they was before lol, happy days on the bank guys.dave

Default moon phases
It is a fact that the moon not only affect the tides but also the behaviour of many aquatic species. Most of what I studied at college was marine species but there may be similar affect with freshwater species. The effect can be seen in predetory fish hunting more actively and the prey fish being more nervous, during a full moon. Prey fish are more vunerable to attack from predators with the extra light as they are at dawn and dusk. Not sure what affect if any there is on barbel but from my days at college I remember that certain species will only spawn with the full moon. So I would imagine that to some extent the moon phases and amount of moonlight would affect most fish behaviour in some way.

hope this is in some way helpfull.
