Ive read a few times articles sayin take a note of the noon phase and try to fish on certain moon phases, how does it affect the fishing and does it prove affective, because imo I dont see how it can help to catch.

If you go night fishing when the moon is in the full moon phase and there are no clouds, you will generally do better.

I think is has something to do with being able to see a bit more of what you are doing and more importantly, where the river is.

Ha seeing where the river is, is a big help especially when casting your baits back in the midde of the night, rite up tight to the overhanging bush on the far bank is abit tricky even in day light.

Take absolutely no notice of moon phases. Think river conditions and atmospheric pressure has the most impact on catch rates. jmo.

Knew a chap who put alot of faith in moon phase, reckoned it had an effect day or night. He was usually successfull, to the point where he could predict peak feeding periods, as I understand the reasoning these feeding periods occur regularly through the lunar cycle, but and its a big but, pretty much all waters vary and the only way to gain the insight is to put the time in and take note. Archie Braddocks is a big a stalwart of the disciplin do a search of his name should give some food for thought.

You can find a pattern in anything if you look hard and long enough.

Yea I believe in it, but I also believe in other factors such as bait presentation, river conditions, air pressure etc etc.
Moon Phases cannot be just taken in isolation.

There are 4 phases of the moon each month, First Quarter, Full, Last Quarter and New Moon. It is true to say that fishing -1 to +1 (roughly) around these days, you are "supposed" to be fishing on "excellent" days.
It doesnt stop there tho....
Within each day of the month, there are 4 points to fish at:-
Moon Rise
Moons High Point
Moon Set
Moons Low Point

To cut a long story short (and believe me I could go on forever about this subject as ive researched it thoroughly), the aim is to try and fish thru one of those 4 times in the day

eg its LQ-1 (day before Last Quarter) and Moons Low point (this is where the moon is equidistant in timing between moon set and moon rise) is at 6pm and moonrise is 11.30pm, it is believed that fishing 5-7pm then 10.30 - 00.30 will produce more activity than at any point in that evening.

I don't believe it myself but like Prestonian had said above presentation, river conditions and air pressure are far more important aspects to good Barbel fishing then any moon phase could give you, that's my opinion anyway.

Moon phases can only play a small part in anything fish related, I don't imagine they read horoscopes and it says: "avoid food today, you could find a tall, dark figure on the horizon".
