Ive grown up living in and around Stockport but never fished the goyt so unsure where to go I know some of the stretches but not sure where to barbel fish without stepping on Anyones toes or worst still getting my car robbed or my gear taken I've heard stories and read articles about the darkside of the goyt.

hi mate
you,ll get the barbel anywhere between brabyns park and waters meet, lots of good stretches and swims to chose from, your car is safe on most of the stretches, same with any river i suppose its pot luck, the goyts no worse than any other when it comes to parking, never heard of people getting there gear robbed, but that can happen anywhere, alot of the river has alot of public access so is reasonably safe
cheers
jerry

And the Stockport Fed is the best ticket, along with Bredbury Anglers. Both can be purchased locally (pet shop in Romiley, for example), and both run June to June.

To be honest, Phoenix, if the fish are in the mood you'll catch barbel on all the Fed water. I tend to stick with Otterpool and downstream, mainly because it's easier for me to get to......
