if it's working for you, it must be a good rig, the only thing I would add is a shock bead in between the lead and swivel.

hi dave the swivel goes into the lead insert so it fishes as a semi fixed lead rig, hopefully hooking the fish as they pickup the bait and feel the weight of lead.

how about a tulip bead to? then it will act as semi fixed also protecting the knot if lead bangs up & down during fight.

I always say to anyone do what works for you and you are most confident using. If this is what is working for you then keep it going and good luck to you. If you're asking what i think then personally i have found the best rigs are the least complicated. It matters more what happens between lead and hook then anything else. I also have to ask why braided main line and why an inline lead? I have never seen the need for inlines on a river. I am of the opinion that if you are smart with your presentation at the business end you will catch barbel anywhere. All my rigs are set up with this in mind so to me i don't see the need for a system like this. You could just have a running lead system and implement the pva on a swivel if you wanted. Call me cynical I'm just of the opinion that barbel fishing is simple and inline leads, expensive braided main line that could easily be compromised on rocks or mussel beds etc and expensive pva is just thinking too much when a simple running feeder would probably do the same if not better and would save you much more money when inevitably you lose tackle. Those avid weights cost a fortune i use them for carp on lakes. This is of course my opinion and why i don't see a reason for it that's not to say you shouldn't because it has obviously been working for you so good luck to you mate.

Hi Paul,

I'll have to disagree with Ricky on the simple front as I think it is a very simple rig, very few knots and links and bits attached.

That said - if the weights (which I have not seen) are expensive, then that is another issue, but weights these days are blooming expensive anyway.

At first I thought the weight would be difficult to change, but one knot and you're back in business. There are options to tie a PVA bag easily up the line from the hook (if that's what you feel you need to do). Very quick to set up again if you do get smashed.

You said that you are having reasonable success with the rig, dos that mean you are asking for improvements? If so then as Ricky has said try using a running feeder rig and see if there is any difference in your catch rate. Try using a back lead, the list of things to try is endless. But keep it simple is the key, and ring the changes as you try something new.

It's all down to how the fish will take it. Tight lines.
