Default Big Barbel From Warks Avon Or Upper/Middle Trent
I would love to beat my personal best barbel of 10lb 10oz from the River Anker, could anyone recommend a likely stretch to catch one to beat it of either the Warks Avon or the Upper/ Middle Trent thats available on a cheap season book or day ticket as these are the nearest to where i live?

Hi stogie

coming from roughly the same part of the country as you, i know it can be a bit of a trek to find some decent fish, usually i wet my line around the middle severn but the anchor meadow or manor farm stretches on the warwickshire avon @ harvington hold some big beards (i think 15lb is stretch record) i personally have only had em up to 10lb 6oz from there but have witnessed some 11`s 12`s and a 13

hope this helps

p.s didnt know there were barbel in the anker

chris

Hi Chrism, thanks for your reply, yes i've fished both of these stretches the anchor meadows stretch i've only had them up to about 8lb off the end peg and the Manor Farm i've fished a number of times but only had the one which weighed about 4lb, i think the BAA book is the best bet, i've fished salford priors, marcliff and barton weir, again i've only had them to just under 8lb, all of these have good doubles in, i think i've just got to perservere right time right place and one will come my way.
Regarding the Anker, yes there are barbel in there mainly Polesworth down to the confluence with the Tame but there's not many and there in isolated pockets, location the hardest part!

Hi Buzza

i agree with you about it can be hard going there sometimes (more so in the winter) after periodically fishing the stretch over the last 20 years i can definately say it can be hit and miss, but if it was easy, where would the fun be in that, im actually heading out there sunday night , so will keep you posted

cheers

chris
