I must admit never fished any of their waters but I’ve had a look at their stretch of the Severn at Welshpool and it looks interesting and there are many stories of 15lb+ Barbel and 6lb+ Chub coming from there!! I’m looking at joining either this season or next so will let you know!!
As I said never fished it but living in the area have heard very many stories one in particular of a 15lb 3oz Barbel and lots of 6lb Chub in Welshpool, do I believe it don’t know never seen the photo’s, is it possible who knows it’s the river Severn.
I know of salmon anglers catching an estimated 16lb Barbel from Caerhowell Hall on the Warrington stretch and thats only 2 miles from Welshpool and I have personally caught 6lb Chub on the worm there a few years back.
Martin
been told same story but was told it was 18lb,there is some big chub up on upper severn mate caught 6 pounder on first day of season, but i know of a 7lb12 coming out, found a dead barbel on river bank in the winter and it was all of 15 lb
surely bump into you some time daveg i pass over river everyday and will try and spend as much time there as possible,i want to try the maa stretch of the vyrnwy aswell, have you ever fished it?
Fished it all day yesterday, had 2 bites and 1 chub of about 3lb. Really nice stretch but very over grown. Didn't se much activity at all though?? Have you been out yet?
never fished vyrnwy but went on severn on maa stretch on thu evening for couple of hours after work but nowt, been told they are late spawning, will be going after we have had some rain to freshen it up abit, have you had any barbel up this end?
not fished this high much used to fish alot just above Shrewsbury. I think there are a lot more barbel lower down but scenery isn't as nice! Just back to barbel fishing after a long break and really looking foward to spending some time further upstream.
